"Fifty Reasons Why Jesus Came to Die" (originally published as "The Passion of Jesus Christ" in 2004)
January 27, 2006
This excellent book offers, as the title suggests, 50 reasons Jesus came to die. Each chapter is only two pages long, is introduced by a short scripture passage, and includes a brief commentary by John Piper.
"John Piper has gathered from the New Testament fifty reasons. Not fifty causes, but fifty purposes--in answer to the most important questions that each of us must face: What did God achieve for sinners like us in sending his Son to die?" (from Amazon.com)
If you're appreciation of the gospel is stagnating, or if you want to gain a deeper understanding of Christ's work on the cross, this is the book for you. This book is very rich theologically, but not too academic for the average reader. It's a great read before bed, or if you want to prepare your heart for the Christmas season, or if you just need something to supplement your daily devotions.
